The Building
With four stories and more than 50,000 square feet of office and public space, the David Brower Center will be a vibrant cultural and educational gathering place for visitors and tenants alike.
On the ground floor, a welcoming lobby and reception area will give way to the 180-seat Richard and Rhoda Goldman Theater, the Kendeda Gallery, meeting rooms, and a restaurant. On the upper three floors, 28,000 square feet of office space will be rented to qualified environmental and environmental justice organizations. Any nonprofit organization, as well other members of the public, will be able rent the theater, meeting rooms, and other facilities at affordable rates. Common areas such as the atrium and second-floor courtyard will create opportunities for informal collaboration among tenants, and the restaurant will encourage interaction among regulars and visitors.
Green from the ground up, the Brower Center is a powerful model of sustainable, mixed-use development. Utilizing the latest in energy-saving technologies and recycled building materials, the Center will make as light a footprint on the Earth as possible, taking into account the true life-cycle cost of building construction, operation, and maintenance. Additionally, the Brower Center will set specific targets and benchmarks for environmental efficiency through all phases of construction and operation, and is expected to attain the highest possible LEED (the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program) rating.
