Your contribution at this closing reception will support the exhibition program at the David Brower Center. Since 2009, the gallery has raised questions, inspired action, and honored artists working for a better world.

--------------------

David Liittschwager is a contributing photographer to National Geographic, a successful book author who has collaborated with Susan Middleton and the California Academy of Sciences, and the recipient of numerous awards, including an Endangered Species Coalition Champion Award for Education and Outreach, and a World Press Photo Award for his work on Marine Microfauna.

David’s exhibition, “One Cubic Foot: Miniature Surveys in Biodiversity” will close on Friday, January 27th. Since September, David’s work has inspired thousands of visitors to the Hazel Wolf Gallery with his singular capacity to observe and report on the richness of life.

--------------------

Launched with a groundbreaking retrospective by Sebastião Salgado, the Hazel Wolf Gallery has featured over 50 artists, including solo shows by David Maisel and Daniel McCormick, a juried exhibition that received over 500 submissions from Bay Area artists, and a bilingual show documenting the global battle over water rights from China to Guatemala.

In the coming year, the gallery will premiere new work by Amy Franceschini and Fernando García-Dory and celebrate David Brower’s invention of a genre – the large-format book of nature photographs.

The value of this program is far-reaching. Through exhibitions, the Brower Center honors and elevates artists who see their work as a tool for education, inspiration, and activism. And as a non-traditional gallery space – featuring museum-quality shows while reaching audiences who may not otherwise visit traditional arts spaces – the Center is able to attract newcomers and raise awareness of a wide range of environmental and social issues in a welcoming space.
